What is Coaching?

“The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.”

We all experience times in our lives when we struggle to discern God’s leading or see His fingerprints on our lives. Sometimes we simply feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start with what we know He is calling us to.

Jehovah God is “The One Who Sees” (Genesis 16:13) and He sees YOU! He is “Emmanuel, God with Us” and he is with YOU. His heart’s desire is to reveal more of himself to you right where you are now, in the middle of the mess. He wants to take you hand-in-hand and lead you from overwhelmed to focused, frustrated to hopeful, unsure to confident, and paralyzed to free! Coaching may be a vehicle that he can use to get you there!

A coach is a brother or sister on the journey who is trained to ask you powerful questions, listen actively, help you brainstorm solutions, and provide accountability as you take action on steps that you identify. A coach believes in you and your ability to hear from God for yourself as you interact with the Holy Spirit and God’s Word personally.  Their primary goal is to help you grow in your own decision-making and godly discernment skills as you live your relationship with Jesus each day. Christian coaches create empowered disciples, not dependents! They walk alongside you for a time and provide structured support that enables you to get to a destination that you are having difficulty reaching on your own.

Coaching is NOT counseling or therapy. A coach is not clinically trained to diagnose or treat any psychological or mental health concerns. Additionally, while a therapist or counselor has a somewhat authoritative relationship with their clients and prescribes treatment, a coach establishes a trusting, safe, and authentic peer relationship that allows the one being coached to process and come up with solutions that work for them in a supportive environment. Coaching can be an effective tool when used in tandem with therapy as it helps the client make intentional steps toward positive change and gain forward movement.
